COBB COUNTY, Ga. - A Georgia high school baseball player is being recognized by the Atlanta Braves after receiving praise for an amazing display of sportsmanship during a game in March. Jo Vaal Hollingshed is a senior at Henry County High School and on March 29, his team took on the Eastside High School Eagles out of Newton County. It was an emotional game at home for Eastside because just one week before, the father of pitcher Michael Hipps Jr. suffered a medical emergency during a home game and passed away as a result. It was the first game back for Hipps since his dad’s death. Just before Hipps threw the first pitch of the game, Hollingshed stepped away from the plate, put his bat down on Continue to Article

The Toronto Blue Jays have suspended outfielder Kevin Pillar two games after he directed a homophobic slur at Atlanta Braves pitcher Jason Motte during a game on Wednesday. Major League Baseball said it was investigating the incident, which occurred after Pillar struck out swinging to end the seventh inning of Atlanta's 8–4 win. Pillar felt he was quick-pitched, and he started to yell toward the mound at Motte after he struck out. Continue to Article

A park that holds 41,149 has been averaging fewer than 30,500 fans per game. We’d say that’s a marked improvement over the roughly 25,000 to 29,000 the Braves had been averaging in their old home at Turner Field since 2014, but considering that the Braves announced their intent to abandon that stadium in 2013, those numbers feel a Continue to Article

ATLANTA (AP) - Kurt Suzuki hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run first inning, and the Atlanta Braves held on after Freddie Freeman left with an injury in an 8-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night. Freeman was struck on the left wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning. The umpires initially ruled that Aaron Loup's pitch did not hit Freeman. But with the Atlanta star in obvious pain, the Braves challenged and the call was reversed after a video review. Freeman headed to the clubhouse instead of first base, with no immediate word on the seriousness of the injury. Atlanta has won three consecutive games against the Jays. After the Braves took two straight in Toronto, the teams shifted Continue to Article
