George W. Bush made an appearance on the Rangers broadcast on Wednesday. While President Donald Trump sits and stews up in the Oval Office as the walls close in, let’s take a break to check in on the last Republican to hold the office: George W. Bush. Continue to Article

Andrew Cashner finally won in his home state of Texas, pitching seven solid innings to help the Rangers match the longest winning streak in the majors this year at eight games with a 9-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. The right-hander from the Houston area also got his first win with the Rangers, who scored all nine runs in the first five innings after getting just six in the first six starts by Cashner (1-3) when the stocky 30-year-old was in the game. Jared Hoying hit his first big league homer and had his first four-hit game in his second start since coming up from the minors to replace center fielder Carlos Gomez, who is expected to miss at least a month with a right hamstring strain. On Saturday, 29-year-old Ryan Dant graduated from his dream school, the University of Louisville. And for him, the relatively ordinary act of walking across the stage in a cap and gown was nothing short of a miracle. Ryan was never supposed to graduate from college. He wasn't supposed to be able to walk across the stage to receive his diploma, or work as an equipment manager for the school's football team. He wasn't even supposed to live past the age of 10. When he was 3 years old, Ryan was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Mucopolysaccharidosis 1, or MPS 1. Basically, his body doesn't produce an essential enzyme that breaks down certain proteins, causing a buildup that affects multiple Continue to Article

May 17 is an odd day in Cubs history. For starters, the longest game in franchise history occurred on May 17, 1927 when the Cubs beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 in 22 innings. Exactly 50 years later (1977), the Cubs hit seven homers en route to a 23-6 victory over the San Diego Padres as Larry Biitner (2), Dave Rosello, Gene Clines, Jerry Morales, Steve Ontiveros and Bobby Murcer all went deep (h/t Chris Kamka for the info). But May 17 is also home to what may have been the craziest game the Cubs franchise has ever taken part in (yes, including Game 7 of the 2016 World Series; that was the greatest game every played). Thirty-eight years ago (May 17, 1979), the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cubs Continue to Article

ARLINGTON, Tex.  Even though Cole Hamels has been gone for almost two years and pitched in an All-Star Game and two postseasons as a member of the Texas Rangers, there is still a little piece of him that is a Phillie. On the mound was Jerad Eickhoff, one of the players Hamels was traded for in the July 2015 blockbuster that ended a 13-year run with the Phillies that started as the team's first-round draft pick in 2002 and included his winning the World Series MVP award six years later. "You kind of have to turn the page real quick and know that I'm rooting against them and not for them," Hamels said with a laugh in the Rangers' clubhouse late Tuesday afternoon. Continue to Article
