After a few rough outings from their starting pitchers, the Minnesota Twins are glad to see their ace back on the mound. Right-hander Ervin Santana gets the start Wednesday in the second contest of Minnesota's three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. Through the first month and a half of the season, Santana has been one of the league's best pitchers in many statistical categories. Continue to Article

SAN FRANCISCO — Matt Cain threw 112 pitches in his win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. To find the last time Cain threw that many pitches, one has to travel back all the way to April 2014 — back when Cain was still viewed as one of the franchise stalwarts and workhorse starters. The period from then to now has not been kind to the three-time All-Star. Cain took a 1-0 loss back on April 12, 2014, to the Colorado Rockies when he threw 116 pitches. Helton, who spent his entire career with Colorado before retiring in 2013, is the only Rockies player whose number is retired. Continue to Article

Pedro Martinez returned to Fenway Park this past Saturday for a charity event, but the conversation never steered too far from baseball-and, more specifically, from new Red Sox ace Chris Sale. “I can tell you from my own experience that when you get your hometown people accustomed to seeing success, you better strap it on,” said Martinez, who made news last week by tweeting that Sale, with his league-leading 73 strikeouts and a 1.92 earned run average, is already surpassing everything he accomplished on the field. In 2015, Sale recorded eight straight double-digit strikeout games, tying a record set by Martinez. Continue to Article
