Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Chris Iannetta exited from Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after being hit in the face by a pitch from Johnny Barbato. Iannetta, who homered earlier in the game, was batting in the seventh inning when he turned into a 93-mph fastball that got away from the Pirates’ hurler. The Arizona Diamondbacks are looking for a fifth starting pitcher now that Shelby Miller's season is over due to elbow surgery. Right-hander Zack Godley might very well have earned another opportunity to show he can be that guy. Godley allowed four hits in seven innings after being called up from Triple-A in time to make his second start of the season, and the Diamondbacks beat the Detroit Tigers 7-1 on Wednesday night to end a three-game losing streak. On Tuesday night, Detroit Tigers outfielder Justin Upton hit a fantastically impressive home run. The Tigers were playing the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, and in the eighth inning, Upton came to the plate. The sound of the ball off the bat was an extremely satisfying “thwack,” and the ball just exploded through the air over center field. Continue to Article

For a starting pitcher, Justin Verlander said, there's such a thing as too much rest. Verlander (3-2) hadn't pitched since May 2 as manager Brad Ausmus ordered the extra two days off after his ace right-hander threw 119 and 118 pitches in consecutive starts.
