Leury Garcia just wanted to get back home, which the White Sox didn't do enough of Friday night. The Sox's leadoff hitter took his time going to first base after absorbing Jhoulys Chacin's third pitch high off his right leg during a 6-3 loss to the Padres at Guaranteed Rate Field. Garcia slowly scooted to second base on the next pitch, a wild one from Chacin, before making his way to third on Melky Cabrera's groundout to second. Garcia then dodged a hot-shot hopper off the bat of Jose Abreu while standing a few feet off third, where he was stranded when Avisail Garcia flew out to end the inning and begin the Sox's sixth consecutive loss, the team's longest since they lost six in a row last September. Matt Szczur made his presence felt early in his return to the Windy City. Back in Chicago for the first time since being traded by the Cubs last Monday, Szczur crushed a 431-foot homer to left field off Miguel Gonzalez on the first pitch of Fridays White Sox-Padres series opener at Guaranteed Rate Field. Where would the White Sox have been without Leury Garcia on Friday night? Aside from the first two-home run game of the utility mans career, the White Sox offense was otherwise nonexistent again. Jose Abreu hasnt been at his best in the field so far this season. In Thursdays series finale against the Minnesota Twins, Abreu committed his fifth error of the season, a league-worst among first basemen. A technicality will prevent the White Sox from replacing Tim Anderson for three games this weekend while he attends the funeral of a close friend. Because Branden Moss wasnt an immediate family member, the White Sox are unable to place Anderson on the bereavement list for while hes gone.
