One of the biggest downers in baseball is when you blow a game late, Dusty Baker told reporters after another blown lead and late loss in Baltimore. BALTIMORE, MD: Max Scherzer took a no-hit bid and 1-0 lead into the sixth before Seth Smith hit a solo shot to right to tie things up, but even after that blown lead, Adam Linds pinch hit 3-run home run in the eighth put the Nationals back on top after seven and a half. Max Scherzer flirted with a no-hitter and left the game up, 4-2, after eight, but the Nationals bullpen faltered again, and the Orioles took their second straight in OPACY. Max Scherzers night started with a leadoff walk to Baltimore Orioles right fielder Seth Smith, but through four innings that was the only baserunner against the right-hander, who walked another batter with two-out in the fifth, ending a streak of 14-straight set down. Scherzer stranded the second Oriole to reach base and completed his fifth scoreless and hitless with his seventh K of the game, however, and through five, he had faced just two batters over the minimum. In two out of the past three seasons, the Baltimore Orioles have ridden a strong bullpen into the playoffs. Closer Zach Britton could be out for up to two months due to a forearm injury. While the team has not confirmed that timeline, both Roch Kubatko of MASN and Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com spoke to sources who indicated the pitcher will be sidelined for 45-60 days. Trea Turner went 0 for 13 with six Ks in Washingtons three-game set in Citizens Bank Park this past weekend, so Nationals skipper Dusty Baker decided to give his 23-year-old shortstop a night off in the series opener in Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
