New York Yankees
As I mentioned in the recaps, Yankees reliever Bryan Mitchell pitched a scoreless ninth inning in yesterday’s loss to the Orioles. Then he moved to first base for the tenth inning, making way for Aroldis Chapman, only to came back to pitch the 11th. His time in the field was mixed, allowing one foul popup to drop but catching another. His 11th inning was rather forgettable too: he gave up run-scoring singles to Mark Trumbo and Welington Castillo, snagging the loss. Continue to Article

Yankees first baseman Greg Bird gave his team tons of confidence to hand him the everyday job at first base to start the 2017 regular season, batting .451/.556/1.098 with eight home runs in 51 spring at-bats. GM Brian Cashman doesn’t have any intent to demote Bird back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch reports. New York Yankees
Before the New York Yankees unloaded with a barrage of home runs to stun the Orioles 14-11, the story on Friday night was Manny Machado. The Orioles slugger was locked in, collecting three hits and driving in three runs. Among his hits was a truly monumental home run that not only cleared Monument Park at Yankee Stadium, it nearly shattered some restaurant windows above the park in straight away center field. New York Yankees
Back in the Yankees clubhouse, Didi Gregorius said he expected New York's success in his absence. The shortstop was activated from the disabled list after recovering from a strained right shoulder, an injury sustained while playing for the Netherlands in last month's World Baseball Classic. Right fielder Aaron Judge dropped one slot to seventh in the batting order and first baseman Greg Bird to eighth. Continue to Article
