Detroit Tigers
NEW YORK -- The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees are cutting payroll and their luxury tax bills - just as Bryce Harper, Manny Machado and perhaps Clayton Kershaw near the free-agent market after the 2018 season. The Dodgers are on track to slice their tax bill by about a quarter this year and the Yankees by two-thirds. The San Francisco Giants also are set to slice their payment in the first season of baseball's new collective bargaining agreement, but the Detroit Tigers are slated to pay more despite saying they want to reduce payroll. John Hicks had three hits, including his first career homer, and drove in five runs to lead Michael Fulmer and the Detroit Tigers to a 13-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Detroit Tigers center fielder JaCoby Jones required nine stitches to repair a cut on his lip after he was hit in the face by a fastball Saturday, but he didn't lose any teeth and feels "lucky" he didn't get hurt worse. "My teeth still hurt, but they said everything was intact and they were still there," Jones told reporters, according to MLB.com. "I still have to get a CT scan when I get back to Detroit. Everything feels normal. I can bite down. It's just my lip. [My] teeth are sore, but other than that, it just feels like I got punched in the face. "It could've knocked out all my teeth or struck me square in the eye. I am lucky it hit me in my big lip and just made it bigger. It's all good." Continue to Article

Chris Heston is back in the major leagues. The former Giants pitcher was recalled as part of a flurry of roster moves by the struggling Mariners prior to Sunday's game against the A's in Oakland. First baseman Dan Vogelbach was also recalled, while outfielder Leonys Martin was designated for assignment and pitcher Chase De Jong was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Continue to Article
