A constant theme during the Phillies' playoff run from 2007-11 was that even when the offense was sputtering, it never felt like they were out of a game. That group of players picked up so many late hits and mounted so many comebacks that even a five-run deficit heading into the final three innings felt like a winnable game. Carlos Beltran homered for the Houston Astros in consecutive games once again. Playing three days before his 40th birthday and a day after his first home run this season, Beltran led off the second inning with his 423rd home run as the Astros rallied past the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 Friday night. Beltran homered in five straight games for Houston during the 2004 postseason, earning a $119 million, seven-year contract from the New York Mets on the free-agent market. Continue to Article

The Tampa Bay Rays understand they have a limited margin for error, and for the second time in three games, one of their defensive stalwarts endured a rough day in the field. On Wednesday, the Rays survived a three-run misplay by Gold Glove center fielder Kevin Kiermaier and still edged the Tigers, but on Friday against the Houston Astros, third baseman Evan Longoria couldn't come up with a routine play that allowed the winning run to score. With the bases loaded and no outs in a 3-3 game in the seventh, Longoria fielded a ground ball from George Springer and looked to throw home for the out there, but bobbled the ball and had to take the out at third, allowing the run to score.
