Chris Carelli, SNY.TV Facebook | Twitter | About Me | Archives Aaron Judge launched a home run in his first MLB at-bat last August and Yankees fans rejoiced in what was believed to be a sign the club was set for a long time in right field. However, raw talent precedes true development. In Judge's late season cameo, he struck out in 44.2 percent of his 95 plate appearances. The poor performance forced Judge to study and alter his hitting mechanics during the offseason. He added a leg kick and strived to change his approach at the plate. There was enough doubt among the Yankees' braintrust that Judge had to win the right field job out of spring training. Spring training statistics should be taken Continue to Article

NEW YORK --? Yankees left fielder Brett Gardner is expected to miss at least Thursday night's game after an ugly collision with Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Rickie Weeks Jr. Gardner and Weeks both left Wednesday's game, an 8-4 win for the Yankees . Gardner had a bruised jaw and a strained neck, while Weeks has neck and shoulder soreness, according to the Rays. "As of right now, they don't believe he has a concussion," said Yankees manager Joe Girardi about Gardner. Rays manager Kevin Cash did not say whether Weeks will miss time. "Right now it's just kind of a bone bruise in that AC joint area," he said. "We don't think any structural damage. We just think it's going to be sore there for him Continue to Article

"We have to start holding government accountable when it refuses to turn over public records to citizens and taxpayers." The crusader in question was Bill de Blasio, who, almost exactly four years ago, as Public Advocate, issued a scathing report condemning government agencies across the city for their records on FOIL. As Michael Pineda threw strike after strike and got out after out, the excitement of the home opener crowd at Yankee Stadium increased and its noise-level rose. ''You're thinking is it's going to be another special day here at the Stadium,'' Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. Pineda retired his first 20 batters, striking out half of them with a darting fastball, a diving slider and a moving changeup. Continue to Article

Jordan Montgomery has earned the fifth starter's job in the New York Yankees' rotation and is scheduled to make his major league debut on Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. A 24-year-old left-hander selected in the fourth round of the 2014 amateur draft, Montgomery had a 3.20 ERA in two starts and four relief appearances during spring training, striking out 17 and walking three in 19 2/3 innings. Montgomery beat out more established pitchers in a group that included Luis Cessa, Chad Green and Bryan Mitchell. Continue to Article
