In addition to many fans tuning out the long 82-game season until the playoffs, the NBA has a problem internally, with players resting to preserve their bodies and bad teams being forced to tank and lose games once they realize they're not competitive. The Los Angeles Clippers' pursuit of home-court advantage in the first-round of the playoffs continues against the Houston Rockets at Staples Center on Monday. Los Angeles (49-31) is tied with the Utah Jazz (49-31) for fourth place in the Western Conference with each team having two games remaining. James Borrego, 39, was a finalist for the Houston Rockets’ and Memphis Grizzlies’ head-coaching openings in 2016. San Antonio assistant James Borrego, a front-runner for the University of New Mexico head-coaching job, has decided to remain with the Spurs, league sources told The Vertical. Borrego, a native of Albuquerque, listened to New Mexico’s pitch last week but informed school officials on Sunday night that he planned to exit the search process and continue pursuit of future head-coaching opportunities in the NBA, league sources said.
