Cesar Hernandez bailed out his buddy in a clutch spot. Hernandez hit a broken-bat RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Pinch-hitter Ryan Zimmerman delivered a tying, three-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth off closer Jeanmar Gomez, but the Phillies immediately answered to take two of three from the defending NL East champions. The Nationals added an arm to their bullpen this morning after a rough night in Philadelphia. All things considered, with the way things went last night, with starter Jeremy Guthrie unable to even get out of the first, things could have been worse. Guthrie recorded just two outs before he was lifted from the outing against the Phillies in Philadelphias Citizens Bank Park and lefty Enny Romero wasnt exactly sharp, but Joe Blanton threw three scoreless innings in the middle of the game, sparing Dusty Bakers bullpen from a real long night in the City of Brotherly Love. Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez left a game Friday night with a left eye contusion after colliding with outfielder Jason Heyward on the anniversary of Kyle Schwarber's major knee injury. The left side of Baez's head appeared to hit Heyward's elbow as both sprinted after a pop fly by Milwaukee's Hernan Perez in the sixth inning.
