The Los Angeles Kings are nearing the end of an era, while the Edmonton Oilers look to be on the fringe of a new one. The Kings, winners of Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014 and a perennial contender for much of the past decade, are currently below the playoff cut -- six points behind the Nashville Predators for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. PA Parenteau and the Nashville Predators knew they were in for a tough game Saturday night at the surging Carolina Hurricanes, but couldn't do anything about it. The same could easily apply for Monday night, when Nashville starts a three-game homestand against the Arizona Coyotes, a team that has been trying to keep its head above water for most of the season. Minnesota lost 3-2 at home to the New York Rangers Saturday night, dropping five points behind Chicago in a division that was its to win before losing seven of the last nine games. Saturday's loss was particularly frustrating because the Wild scored the first goal for only the third time in the last three weeks and had a number of top-notch chances but failed to bury them.
