Patrick Sharp wasn't among the veterans traded before the deadline by the struggling Dallas Stars because the forward needs season-ending surgery for an undisclosed injury. General manager Jim Nill said Wednesday that he told teams asking about Sharp that he couldn't trade the 35-year-old because of the injury. Ottawa Senators goaltender Andrew Hammond has a torn labrum in his right hip and will have surgery in the near future to correct the issue, ending his 2016-17 season. According to the Senators, Hammond will be allowed to begin skating again in approximately 12 weeks.
