It's not that Pittsburgh didn't deserve to win, or didn't outplay Florida State, or didn't outcoach them Saturday in the Panthers' upset win against the No. 17 Seminoles. It's how the Seminoles' latest road loss went down that still has Florida State scratching its heads heading into Monday's game on short rest against Boston College. Xavier Rathan-Mayes' maturation as a point guard has been one of the overlooked aspects to Florida State's success so far this season. The 6-foot-4 junior is third on the 17th-ranked Seminoles (21-6, 9-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) in scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game, but he is fourth in the conference in assist-turnover ratio (2.6-to-1) and fifth in assists (4.7 per game). Just a week ago, Virginia was up 14 points at the half against rival Virginia Tech and looking as if it would end the night tied for first place in the ACC. Fast forward seven days and the 14th-ranked Cavaliers now find themselves three games out of first place and sputtering in the middle of their first three-game losing streak in six years.
