Michigan showed its potential, swarming Michigan State when it had the ball and swishing shots from all over the court on offense. The Wolverines ended a five-game losing streak with a statement, winning 86-57 Tuesday night in their biggest rout of the Spartans since Tom Izzo was a rookie head coach. Michigan (15-9, 5-6 Big Ten) has to figure out how to take that act on the road with five of its final seven games in the regular season coming away from home, including Sunday against the Hoosiers in Assembly Hall. Simply put, when No. 16 Purdue plays at Indiana on Thursday night in Assembly Hall, three of the nation's best post players will be on display in one of college basketball's best rivalries. Purdue (19-5, 8-3 Big Ten) features the likely Big Ten Player of the Year in Caleb Swanigan, a 6-foot-8 power forward who is averaging 19.1 points and 12.8 rebounds, and 7-2 center Isaac Haas, who is averaging 13.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. Michigan State is in the midst of its longest winning streak against rival Michigan since the glory days of the Tom Izzo era. The Spartans have won five straight, a run so long that players such as junior point guard Tum Tum Nairn don't know what it is like to lose to the Wolverines.
