Will the real Winnipeg Jets please stand up? For a team gunning for one of the two wild-card playoff spots in the Western Conference, it's points like the two left on the table in Denver that has Jets fans wringing their hands. Coach Paul Maurice told the Winnipeg Free Press his troops need to adopt a defense-first mindset if they're going to grind out wins on nights when they don't have their best stuff. Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid played his 100th NHL game on Sunday, and it was an eventful one. McDavid was kept off the scoresheet, but he led all forwards with 20:43 of ice time and drew three penalties in the Oilers' 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Leon Draisaitl's shootout goal. Although Quick is back practicing with the Kings, Budaj is expected to get the call when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon. Quick has been sidelined with a groin injury since mid-October and practiced for the second straight day on Friday under the supervision of former All-Star goaltender Bill Ranford. Colorado Avalanche
After so many nights of offensive struggle this season, the Los Angeles Kings scored on their opening shift and never let up on the woeful Colorado Avalanche. Jeff Carter scored two goals and Peter Budaj earned his sixth shutout of the season in the Kings' fourth consecutive victory, 5-0 over Colorado on Wednesday night. Marian Gaborik scored 47 seconds into Los Angeles' three-goal first period, and Dustin Brown and Dwight King added third-period goals in the Kings' first win in four tries over the Avalanche, who have lost nine straight.
