After fiddling with his rotation for weeks, Iowa State coach Steve Prohm went to an unconventional lineup to help pull the Cyclones out of a funk. Naz Mitrou-Long scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and Iowa State rallied from 14 down to beat Texas Tech 63-56 Friday. After looking sluggish for well over a half, Iowa State went to a four-guard lineup and ripped off 16 straight points - and a Mitrou-Long 3 gave the Cyclones their first lead, 55-52, with 4:29 left. Before the season began, Baylor coach Scott Drew took a look at his team's nonconference schedule and shook his head a bit. "Yeah, who made that?" Drew joked at Big 12 Media Day when he looked over a schedule that included games against Oregon and Xavier plus a tournament that led to games against Michigan State and Louisville. Iowa State had always planned to lean on its deep and talented backcourt, and hope that its rebuilt frontcourt would hold its own this season. Iowa State (8-3) has gotten decent production from senior graduate transfers Darrell Bowie (8.5 points, 6.5 rebounds per game) and Merrill Holden (4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds). At first glance, it makes little sense that the Big 12 conducts its men's basketball tournament at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, considering the state of Missouri no longer has a program in the league. As the league begins its double-round-robin grind next week, Kansas sets its sights on a 13th consecutive regular-season championship.
