Washington Capitals
Washington forward Daniel Winnik lost a part of his right ear when he was stuck in the head blocking a shot in the Capitals' 4-2 victory Thursday night at Florida. ''He got the puck sort of in the ear hole and it sort of pinched off his ear,'' Capitals coach Barry Trotz said Thursday night. Continue to Article

Alex Ovechkin scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period to lift the Washington Capitals over the Florida Panthers 4-2 on Thursday night. Marcus Johansson, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Justin Williams scored goals for the Capitals. Matt Niskanen recorded two assists and Braden Holtby made 26 saves. Continue to Article

New York Rangers
The Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators are coming off wins, but neither team is particularly happy about the way it is playing. The Red Wings (2-2-0) have won two in a row, but only defeated the New York Rangers 2-1 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night because of a spectacular performance in goal by backup goalie Jimmy Howard, who was making his first appearance of the season. Howard made 32 saves, including at least four breakaways. Continue to Article
