In the wake of a 6-3 defeat in their home opener against the Boston Bruins on Thursday, Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella will keep his lineup and lines intact in order to instill some confidence in the second-youngest team in the NHL when they host the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. Unlike in the past, Tortorella doesn't want to "get the blender out" if things aren't going well. Tortorella told the Blue Jackets' website that one of the keys is to continue to encourage his players to make plays, saying he felt as though they were tentative and didn't make the plays that were available in the opener. The Los Angeles Kings placed Jonathan Quick on injured reserve Thursday after the star goalie got hurt in the first period of their season opener. Quick incurred an unspecified lower-body injury during Los Angeles' opener at San Jose while making a fairly ordinary stretch to stop a scoring chance by Joe Pavelski. Opening night went as scripted for the San Jose Sharks from the unveiling of the Western Conference championship banner to Brent Burns' game-winning goal in the third period. Things couldn't have gotten off to a worse start for the Los Angeles Kings, who might have lost far more than the season opener when star goalie Jonathan Quick left the game with a lower-body injury.
