New Mexico
After picking up his first win, Rutgers coach Chris Ash is facing a lot of challenging teams in the next month. It starts on Saturday with a game against New Mexico and its funky offense and finishes with a brutal opening three weeks in the Big Ten Conference with games against No. 13 Iowa, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Michigan. The Lobos (1-1) run a unique option offense that is bound to test the Scarlet Knights, who are coming off a 52-14 win over Howard in a game in which they trailed early by two touchdowns. Rutgers
Janarion Grant scored three touchdowns and Rutgers overcame an early scare against Howard in posting a 52-14 victory on Saturday, giving new coach Chris Ash his first win. Grant resurrected a stunned Rutgers (1-1) from a 14-0 first quarter deficit with an 84-yard kickoff return, and he was in the center of a 21-point third quarter with touchdown runs of 58 and 21 yards. Quarterback Chris Laviano added three touchdown passes as the Scarlet Knights scored the final 52 points in wearing down Howard (0-2), an FCS opponent that was facing its second straight Big Ten Conference opponent. Rutgers
For most Big Ten Conference football teams, a step-down game is one to put in the win column. After being blown out by now No. 8 Washington in Chris Ash's coaching debut at Rutgers, it's hard to know what to expect when the Scarlet Knights face Howard on Saturday. Rutgers did not play well in dropping a 48-13 decision to the Huskies. Continue to Article
