The Seattle bullpen had been an Achilles heel this season, but a series of changes and the emergence of rookie closer Edwin Diaz seem to have shored up that part of the Mariners. Diaz, 22, has earned four saves on five nights and probably won't be available when the Mariners (56-53) host the Los Angeles Angels in the finale of a three-game series at Safeco Field on Sunday. A night that began with cheers for new Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. echoing through Safeco Field ended with chants for Shawn O'Malley, a kid that grew up a few hours southeast of Seattle idolizing the Hall of Famer. ''The fact it ended like that, it just seemed like a Griffey type of night,'' O'Malley said.
