Major League Baseball wants managers to stop arguing balls and strikes, warning in a memo that it is "detrimental to the game." Joe Torre, the chief baseball officer for MLB, sent a memo Friday to managers, general managers and assistant general managers. Torre, a Hall of Fame manager, said in the memo that managers are increasingly relying on technology from the clubhouse or video room to argue from the dugout. Torre warned that any manager or coach ejected for arguing balls and strikes "hereafter will be disciplined, including at least a fine." - - - The Cleveland Indians placed right-handed relief pitcher Tommy Hunter on the 15-day disabled list with a non-baseball related injury. Arizona manager Chip Hale used a team meeting Thursday to stress a return to relentless baseball, and the Diamondbacks' 12-inning victory on Saturday night was exactly what he was looking for. Maybe Jake Lamb deserved more write-in votes as one of five NL players in the ''Final Vote'' lineup for the All-Star Game. The Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman finished fourth in the voting, but won the battle Saturday against an actual All-Star, Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen. Plate umpire Dale Scott left the game between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks in the bottom of the first inning Saturday after taking a foul ball near his chin. The count was 1-1 on Arizona leadoff man Jean Segura after he fouled off a pitch from Brandon McCarthy of the Dodgers. The ball struck Scott, who was attended to by a Diamondbacks trainer.
