It has been a long time since the Texas Rangers endured a three-game losing streak, something they will try to avoid Friday night in the opener of a three-game series against the Twins in Minnesota. In fact, before losing their past two games, Texas (51-29) hadn't dropped back-to-back games since their past three-game skid, a May 16-18 three-game sweep at Oakland. Los Angeles Angels left-hander Andrew Heaney will have Tommy John surgery, likely sidelining him until the 2018 season. The Angels announced the decision Thursday in another blow to the injury-plagued lineup of the AL West's last-place team. After the Los Angeles Angels stumbled to their ninth loss in 10 games Wednesday, manager Mike Scioscia held a closed-door meeting before they packed up and flew to Boston. Although everybody described the meeting as relatively upbeat, the Angels didn't emerge with any big ideas on how to slow a season going south.
