Community Picks: Philadelphia Phillies 0% vs Minnesota Twins 0%

A week ago, I wrote about the Philadelphia Phillies free-falling back to normal. At that point, on June 16, their June record was 4-10. Seven days later, their record is -- you guessed it -- 4-17. Those seven games haven't been against the most fearsome teams in baseball, either. They played one game against the Toronto Blue Jays, and then faced the Arizona Diamondbacks for four games, and are about to finish out a series with the Minnesota Twins. Very little is going right for the Philadelphia Phillies, who will try and snap a nine-game losing streak Thursday afternoon when they wrap up a three-game interleague series with the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. Just over a month ago, the Phillies were one of baseball's best stories, a rebuilding squad off to a 24-17 start and only a half-game behind the National League East-leading Washington Nationals on May 18. "We can't become complacent with losing, and on the other hand, I don't want to start yelling and screaming and put my thumb on them," Phillies manager Pete Makanin told the Philadelphia Inquirer. After Max Kepler made a costly error, Byron Buxton was right there to offer some encouragement. Whatever Buxton said, it worked. Kepler made up for his error with a tying single in the fifth inning and the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the seventh as the Minnesota Twins handed the Philadelphia Phillies their ninth straight loss, 6-5 Wednesday night. Starlin Castro hit a game-winning home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth, and the Yankees rallied to beat the Colorado Rockies 9-8 on Wednesday. New York trailed 8-4 going into the seventh, but Carlos Beltran's three-run homer helped bail out CC Sabathia after his worst outing of the season. The Minnesota Twins will go for their third straight victory Wednesday night when they continue their three-game interleague series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Target Field. Right-hander Kyle Gibson takes the mound for Minnesota, still looking for his first victory of the season. Gibson comes into the game 0-5 with a 6.06 ERA in six starts this season and is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in two starts since returning from the disabled list June 11. Continue to Article
