When Roenis Elias was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Red Sox this past December, his initial reaction was to make it work in Boston and win a championship. Elias, acquired along with Carson Smith in the deal that sent Wade Miley to Boston, didn't make the Red Sox out of spring training and made one relief appearance with the big club on a call-up before going back and settling in at Triple-A Pawtucket. Now, after a 4-0 record and 2.00 ERA in his last five starts, Elias joins the battle for Boston's fifth-starter spot vacated by Clay Buchholz and he faces former teammate Hisashi Iwakuma in the opener of a three-game series. This is The StewPod, our baseball podcast with a dash of pop culture. If you dig the show, please  subscribe and review us on iTunes . It's been one heck of a 24-hour run for baseball. Ichiro Suzuki kicked things off, passing Pete Rose for the most professional hits in the game. That was followed by the season's first cycle, hit by Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman. The cherry on top: A near perfect game/no-hitter thrown by Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis. All three of those things make for an exciting episode of The StewPod. On this week's episode, Mike and Chris discuss the Pete Rose/Ichiro debate, argue about whether hitting for the cycle is properly appreciated and talk about whether no-hitters might be overrated.  As usual, Bad News Ramen brings the hot takes during his Three Strikes segment. After that, Chris and Mike finish things up with some Important Questions.  [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now ] The StewPod has embraced debate! Friends will become enemies, and families will be torn apart on this episode. You won't want to miss it. Here's the full rundown of the show: • Colby Lewis almost threw a no-hitter • What do you make of the whole Hit King debate? • Is hitting for the cycle underrated? How does it compare to throwing a no-hitter? • Bad News Ramen joins the program for his usual Three Strikes segment • Important questions [ Music : " Heavy as a Heartbreak " by Just A Gent ] More MLB coverage from Yahoo Sports: - - - - - - - Chris Cwik is a writer for Big League Stew on Yahoo Sports. One reason the St. Louis Cardinals last year became the majors' first 100-win team since 2011 was their dominance at Busch Stadium, where they went 55-26 and swept eight series. This year, St. Louis is 15-18 when playing at home, one reason why it trails the Chicago Cubs by 9 1/2 games in the National League Central. At 42-25, Texas owns a 6 1/2-game lead in the American League West over Seattle and is 18-15 on the road. Continue to Article

Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis flirted with a no-hitter on Thursday, but the 36-year-old right-hander settled for a 5-1 Major League Baseball victory at Oakland. Lewis hurled a perfect game through 7 2/3 innings, retiring the first 23 A's batters he faced until he walked Yonder Alonso on four errant fastballs to spoil his perfection bid, although his hopes for a no-hitter were intact entering the ninth inning. A's outfielder Max Muncy smacked a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth inning off Lewis to end the no-hit dream. Continue to Article
