Community Picks: Arizona Diamondbacks 0% vs Philadelphia Phillies 0%

Not every baseball game can be a close contest or a virtuoso pitching performance. Sometimes, a team is just totally dominated by their opponent. When that happens, it can be hard to keep your head in the game, as a fan or especially as a player. Keeping track of the number of outs is important, which is a lesson that Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Odubel Herrera learned the hard way on Thursday night.  There's no kind way to talk about the Phillies' game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays absolutely destroyed the Phillies, and it was over early. Toronto scored three runs in the first, one in the third, and four in the fourth, all while the Phillies scored none. And the Jays weren't done! They scored another run in the seventh, and had already plated one in the eighth when Odubel Herrera had a brain cramp. Jays left fielder Michael Saunders was at the plate, facing off against Phillies reliever David Hernandez. On the 1-2 pitch, Saunders flied out to right center field, and Herrera jogged over and made the easy catch. Then Herrera casually flipped the ball up to fans in the stands and continued to jog toward the dugout. Only the out he caught wasn't the third out, it was just the second.  [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now ] Herrera kept running for a few long seconds before he noticed anything was wrong. Not only were his teammates not leaving the field with him, but Edwin Encarnacion, who had been on first, was jogging toward third. Because Herrera had thrown the ball into the stands while Encarnacion was still on base, he got to take two bases on that error.  That error ended up being pretty costly. Russell Martin was the next batter, and he hit a double which easily scored Encarnacion from third. Then Kevin Pillar hit a two-run home run, giving the Blue Jays 13 runs and 17 hits on the night. The Toronto Blue Jays again showed their offensive prowess Thursday night and set some season highs in the process. J.A. Happ allowed three hits and an unearned run in seven innings and the Blue Jays hit five home runs in a 13-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. Kevin Pillar hit two homers and Edwin Encarnacion, Michael Saunders and Devon Travis added one apiece for the Blue Jays, who set season marks with the five homers and 17 hits. Continue to Article
