Welcome to The Walk Off, the nightly MLB recap from Big League Stew. Here we'll look the top performers of the night, show you a must-see highlight and rundown the scoreboard. First, we start with Colorado beating the New York Yankees but losing a key player to injury. Shortstop Trevor Story has done a lot of good with his bat for the Colorado Rockies in his impressive rookie season, but he came close to doing some serious damage to his team Tuesday night. Story chased a fly ball into shallow left field in the third inning against the New York Yankees. Outfielder Gerardo Parra called him off, and Story went to the ground trying to avoid a collision but he ended up rolling up Parra’s leg, giving him a sprained ankle and causing him to be taken off the field on a cart. Parra, the biggest free agent addition to the Rockies in the offseason, is listed as day-to-day following the incident but could miss some time depending on how he feels Wednesday. He is batting .263 this season with five home runs and 27 RBI. Fortunately, outfield is a position of strength and depth for Colorado and one of those players came through with a big night to help Colorado overcome the loss of Parra in a 13-10 win. Carlos Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI in beating the Yankees, who didn’t get their bats warmed up until later in the game and fell short in a comeback attempt. Story also managed to redeem himself somewhat for his mistake in the field by hitting a home run and driving in three runs. Ryan Raburn, the man who replaced Parra after the injury, also hit a home run. TOP PERFORMERS Albert Almora Jr .: The latest addition of talented youth for the Chicago Cubs belted a ninth-inning double to drive in the winning run in a 4-3 victory at Washington. He entered the game as part of a double-switch by manager Joe Maddon earlier and came through with the first game-winning hit of his career. Josh Donaldson : The Blue Jays routed the Phillies 11-3 and Toronto’s third baseman led the way with two doubles and his second Grand Slam home run of the season. Donaldson went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. His home run came in the third turning a 3-0 lead into a blowout. Jameson Taillson : in his second major league start, the 24-year-old took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and went on to earn his first win 4-0 out-dueling Jacob deGrom and the Mets. Taillon pitched eight innings, allowed two hits and struck out five. MUST-SEE HIGHLIGHT Dodgers rookie pitcher Kenta Maeda took a line drive off his leg in the sixth inning and had to leave the game at Arizona. Maeda still managed to throw out Paul Goldschmidt before falling to the ground. The Dodgers reported that X-rays were negative and Maeda suffered a leg contusion. Maeda still earned the win in the Dodgers’ 7-4 victory. He has been the Dodgers’ second best pitcher this season next to Clayton Kershaw and the team can not afford to lose him for any time. THE REST OF THE SCOREBOARD Reds 3. Braves 1 : Jay Bruce hit a three-run home run in the first inning to start and end the scoring for Cincinnati, which has won nine of its past 13 games. Orioles 3, Red Sox 2 : Manny Machado belted a two-run home run in the first inning, but Jonathan Schoop’s solo shot in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as Baltimore beat Boston ace David Price, who recorded 11 strikeouts. Astros 5, Cardinals 2: Houston starter Doug Fister drove in a pair of runs at the plate and pitched 71/3 innings to lead the Astros to their ninth consecutive victory with him on the mound. Fister allowed two runs and five hits while striking out six. Rays 8, Mariners 7 : Corey Dickerson hit his 12th home run of the season and later drove in the winning run combining with Evan Longoria to lead Tampa Bay to a win over Seattle. Dickerson is still hitting just .207. Royals 3, Indians 2 : Salvador Perez hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to lead the Royals to their fourth consecutive win after an eight-game losing streak. Tigers 11, White Sox 8 : Detroit knocked around Chicago pitching to the tune of 16 hits, including four off the bat of Miguel Cabrera. Justin Upton went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Jordan Zimmerman won after pitching seven innings. Marlins 5, Padres 2 : Jeff Mathis hit a Grand Slam to power the Miami’s win. Ichiro Suzuki grounded out in a pinch-hit opportunity in the ninth inning, failing to tie Pete Rose’s record for career hits. All of Rose’s hits came in the major leagues. Suzuki’s hits are a combination of his time in MLB and Japan. Rangers 10, A’s 6 : Texas hit three home runs to back Martin Perez, who pitched seven innings to earn his fifth consecutive win. Perez allowed nine hits and gave up four runs. Angels 5, Twins 4: Five relievers combined to hold Minnesota scoreless after starter Jhoulys Chacin gave up four runs in the first five innings.
