LOS ANGELES — In 2000, longtime Los Angeles Dodger fan Danielle Goldey and her then-girlfriend Meredith Kott were removed from Dodger Stadium mid-game by a team of security guards. Their crime? Goldey and Kott shared a kiss, and a fan complained that they didn’t want their kids around “those kinds of people.” Fast forward to this past Friday, when the Dodgers hosted their fourth annual LGBT Night, which featured an LGBT-themed Dodger tank top, pre-game activities, post-game fireworks and openly gay celebrities like NSYNC’s Lance Bass, retired nine-year NFL veteran Esera Tuaolo and LA Galaxy midfielder Robbie Rogers, who threw out the first pitch. Nice pitch, @robbierogers ! 👏 pic.twitter.com/qfgtAGEFHq — Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) June 4, 2016 “They have grown,” Goldey told Yahoo Sports. “I mean, they’ve grown kind of the same pace the world is growing. I wouldn’t necessarily call them the front-runners. They haven’t led the pack, but they are moving with the wave of modern times.” After that ugly incident in 2000, Goldey and Kott received a public apology from then-Dodgers president Bob Graziano and the club donated 5,000 tickets to three LGBT charities. But Goldey wanted something more. She asked the Dodgers for a LGBT Night, but that request took a little longer — 13 years to be exact. Other clubs, like the rival San Francisco Giants, had celebrated LGBT Night since 2002, but the Dodgers lagged behind. “That upsets me because they’re our nemesis,” Goldey said. “It was like, come on, we’re L.A. We should have had this 15 years ago.” Continue to Article

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz has made a career out of hitting things exceptionally hard with a baseball bat. His time in the game might be coming to an end in a few months, but that doesn't mean his special skill can't be used in another way once he retires.  [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now ] Ortiz may have found a way to do just that. In a new ad by JetBlue, Ortiz imagines the perfect post-retirement career for any Major League Baseball designated hitter. We have to admit, we laughed quite a bit. The idea of Ortiz showing up at a kid's birthday party and destroying a piñata is pretty great. And it's tough to top the physical sight of Ortiz smashing piñatas with a bat. On top of all that, we find his post-smashing bat flips to be aesthitically pleasing.  While piñata destroyer sounds like a pretty fun career, we already know it's not Ortiz's dream job. As Ortiz reminded us last September, he would like to be a pornstar if he wasn't playing baseball .  [Elsewhere: The Dodgers found a creative way to troll umpire Joe West during a game ] We're guessing JetBlue didn't shoot that version of the commercial. Boston Red Sox
At this time last year, the Chicago White Sox were 6 1/2 games out of first place in the AL Central. Cleveland has won five in a row and leads the Central at 31-24 - which is the worst record of any division leader at the moment. Only 3 1/2 games separate the Indians from fourth-place Detroit, with Kansas City and Chicago in between. Continue to Article
