San Diego Padres
As soon as the first inning ended, Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado came into the dugout and began yelling in frustration. The Rockies had been shut down 1-2-3 by former teammate Drew Pomeranz in the top of the inning and gave up Matt Kemp's impressive three-run home run in the bottom. Matt Kemp hit a three-run home run estimated at 458 feet, matching the longest at Petco Park, Drew Pomeranz pitched seven innings of two-hit ball and Melvin Upton Jr. stole home as the Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 4-0 Friday night. The Padres won a night after a bullpen meltdown so big that manager Andy Green called it ''borderline inexplicable.'' The Padres blew a 12-2 lead to the Seattle Mariners, who scored 14 times in two innings to win 16-13. Continue to Article

Colorado Rockies
Chad Bettis has bounced back from a rough start with a good one against the San Diego Padres already this season, and he'll try to do it again to snap the Colorado Rockies' slump against their NL West foe. While trying to end his miserable stretch Saturday night, Bettis hopes to cool down the Padres as the visiting Rockies try for just their third win in the last nine games of this series. Last-place San Diego (22-34) continued its dominance of Colorado (24-30) with Friday's series-opening 4-0 win - the club's fifth in seven games against the Rockies this season. Continue to Article
