Dallas Keuchel insists he's ready to begin a new home winning streak, but riding one of the worst three-game stretches of his career doesn't instill confidence. After roughing up the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner at the end of April, the Seattle Mariners will try to get to him again Saturday night when they look to avoid their first back-to-back losses in more than two weeks against the Houston Astros. Keuchel (2-4, 5.11 ERA) had won 17 in a row at Minute Maid Park before allowing five runs, seven hits and five walks over a season-low 4 1/3 innings in a 6-2 loss to Minnesota on Monday. There aren’t many feats Jose Altuve could accomplish on the baseball diamond that would top what he did Thursday when it comes to producing in the clutch. Houston’s young superstar met with a boy named Dillon before the game. Dillon is battling cancer in a fight for his life and he told Altuve he hoped he broke his bat during one of his at-bats so that Altuve would give him the bat. Altuve didn’t bother waiting to break a bat. He asked someone to retrieve a bat from the clubhouse and gave it to Dillon before the game started. Dillon was so happy he took it a step further and told Altuve he was going to hit a home run. [Elsewhere: Aroldis Chapman 'would love' to play for Team USA at 2017 WBC ] So, of course, Altuve lead off the bottom half of the first inning against the Mariners by crushing a home run to left field off Seattle starter Wade Miley. "He was like, 'OK, now you're going to hit a homer.' I was like 'Eh, I hit a home yesterday, so don't expect me to hit a homer today, but I don't want to make you feel bad if I don't,'" Altuve told the Astros official website. "He was like, 'Yes, you're going to make it. We'll see.' As soon as I hit the home run and I got to second base, I remembered what he said. I really like the kid. He was really happy to be here. I hope God blesses him for what he's been through right now.” [Elsewhere: History made: Four first-place teams play on same night in Chicago ] Take a bow Jose. That’s just flat out awesome. Before the game, Dillon asked @JoseAltuve27 to hit a home run for him. Altuve delivered. pic.twitter.com/yKWVmqaB9E — Houston Astros (@astros) May 6, 2016 Not only did Altuve come through with a bat and a home run for Dillon, he also went 4-for-4 in the game, tying a career-best with the four-hit performance. It was a quite a night for Altuve even though the Astros lost 6-3. He scored two of Houston’s three runs and drove in two of the three as well. He also gave Dillon a few hours of joy and an incredible memory.
