Hisashi Iwakuma felt the game was on the line when he faced a bases loaded situation in the second inning. Sonny Gray is acknowledging his control hasn't been what he'd like it to be, but it's been rare for the Oakland Athletics ace to allow walks to pile up like they have been. Gray (3-2, 3.81 ERA) gave up four runs and two hits with four walks and a hit batter in two innings of Wednesday's 9-4 loss in Detroit as his single-season ERA climbed over 3.00 for the first time since ending 2014 at 3.08.
