Highlights from Major League Baseball games on Thursday: Cubs 16, Reds 0 Jake Arrieta tossed the second no-hitter of his career and the 15th in Chicago Cubs history in a 16-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Arrieta got Eugenio Suarez to fly out to right fielder Jason Heyward for the final out, and the celebration was on around the mound. Arrieta, who threw a no-hitter at Dodger Stadium on Aug. 30 last season, was greeted with hugs, high-fives and a Gatorade shower before exiting the field. Continue to Article

When he went to the Chicago Cubs as part of a trade that included bonus slots for international players, Jake Arrieta was convinced he'd someday do great things. Arrieta allowed only six balls hit out of the infield on Thursday night while no-hitting the Cincinnati Reds 16-0, a gem as clean and as dominating as it gets. It was the first no-hitter of the season in Major League Baseball and his second in 11 regular season starts - he also stymied the Dodgers 2-0 on Aug. 30 as the highlight of his Cy Young season. The Kansas City Royals have picked up right where they left off from October, while the Baltimore Orioles appear to have rejoined the American League's upper tier after falling back last season. The two early division leaders begin a three-game series Friday night at Kauffman Stadium, a venue that's given Baltimore trouble in recent years. Coming off a disappointing 81-81 campaign, Baltimore (10-4) has begun this one resembling its 2014 squad that won 96 games and a playoff series before being swept by the upstart Royals in the AL championship series. Perhaps the Oakland Athletics were a little envious last year when Josh Donaldson developed into the league MVP. Donaldson's first season away from Oakland was a rousing success and he'll try to help his Toronto Blue Jays post a seventh straight home win over the surging Athletics as they face Sonny Gray in Friday night's series opener.
