One bad inning wasn't enough to undo an otherwise impressive outing by Juan Nicasio. Nicasio overcame a three-run fourth in pitching six effective innings, and Matt Joyce and Gregory Polanco each had three of the Pittsburgh Pirates' 17 hits in their 9-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Considering their early struggles, the San Diego Padres will take wins any way they can get them. After needing extra innings to end their latest slide, the Padres can take the decisive series finale against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. Andrew McCutchen hit his first home run of the season and Jon Niese combined with two relievers on a three-hitter as the Pittsburgh Pirates blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 on Saturday night to end their four-game losing streak. McCutchen's solo shot off Taylor Jungmann in the fifth inning increased the Pirates' lead to 4-0 after they scored three runs in the fourth. McCutchen was so happy that he stopped in front of dugout after rounding the bases, broke into a big smile and raised his hands skyward. Continue to Article
