Phillies reliever Daniel Stumpf was suspended for 80 games by Major League Baseball on Thursday after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance. The rookie left-hander tested positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, an anabolic steroid used to increase speed and strength. A 25-year-old left-hander, Stumpf made his major league debut April 7 and has a 40.50 ERA in three appearances, allowing three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Continue to Article

Acquired from Houston in a seven-player December deal that sent closer Ken Giles to the Astros, Velasquez allowed three hits and struck out nine over six innings Saturday to help Philadelphia (4-5) end an 0-4 start with a 1-0 victory over the New York Mets. Salvador Perez tagged Houston reliever Ken Giles for a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning, lifting the Kansas City Royals over the Houston Astros 4-2 Wednesday night. The World Series champion Royals have taken two of the three from the team they beat in the decisive Game 5 of the AL Division Series last October.
