Philadelphia Flyers
It still wasn't enough for the Boston Bruins as they try to move into playoff position. Noah Hanifin scored the only goal of a shootout in the fifth round to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat Boston 2-1 on Tuesday night and dent the Bruins' playoff hopes. Boston earned one point to move into a three-way tie with Detroit and Philadelphia for the last two Eastern Conference playoff spots, but both of those teams have more games remaining. Philadelphia Flyers
With three scenarios in play for the Detroit Red Wings, they will try to gain an edge on another hopeful in the Eastern Conference when the Philadelphia Flyers visit Wednesday night. The Bruins have 90 points, four games left and are in action on Sunday at the Chicago Blackhawks, who will be without the suspended Duncan Keith. Here are the current standings. The Death Watch tracks the final Wild Card spot and the teams that are chasing it. Their “tragic number” is the number of points gained by the final wild card team or lost by the team chasing it. All playoff percentages are from Sports Club Stats ; tragic numbers and other figures via the NHL. A team is eliminated from play-offs when their "Tragic Number" hits 0. Detroit Red Wings
Although they lost their latest game, the Minnesota Wild still remain in good shape for a fourth consecutive playoff berth. Detroit's league-best streak of 24 straight appearances, meanwhile, appears tenuous because the Red Wings struggled to get into a groove this past month. Minnesota (38-29-11) is five points ahead of Colorado for the Western Conference's final playoff berth with four games remaining. Continue to Article
