Columbus Blue Jackets
New York Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh is going to miss the final three games of the regular season and his status for the playoffs is uncertain because of an upper-body injury. McDonagh was hit in the right hand by a shot in the first period of Monday's night's win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Coach Alain Vigneault would not disclose the nature of McDonagh's injury before the Rangers game with the Tampa Bay Lightning, referring to a team statement that said the 26-year-old defenseman would be out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. Columbus Blue Jackets
The New York Rangers will be without captain Ryan McDonagh for the next three games and possibly beyond. On Tuesday, the team announced McDonagh is out indefinitely with an upper body injury and won't dress in their three remaining regular season games. According to the New York Post , the minute-crunching blueliner broke a bone in his right hand blocking a Brandon Dubinsky shot during a Monday game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Hockey contest now ]   The story said, “while McDonagh is not expected to be sidelined longterm, he very well could miss the first few games of the (playoffs) opening round …” The Daily News also referred to McDonagh's issue as a right hand injury.  Losing McDonagh for any postseason time would be a big blow to New York. He averages 22:21 of ice-time per-game, most amongst all Rangers players. This includes 2:38 of shorthanded ice-time per-game and 1:55 on the power play per-game. McDonagh suffered a head injury in early-February and missed four games. In late February he suffered a jaw injury off a hit by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov.   The Rangers currently have 97 points, two ahead of the New York Islanders for third place in the Metropolitan Division. The Islanders have one game in hand. If the Rangers finished third, they’ll face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first-round of the postseason. If they drop into the Wild Card, they’ll draw either the Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning in the first-round. Columbus Blue Jackets
The New York Rangers needed three tries before finally getting the win that clinched a postseason berth. Chris Kreider and Derek Stepan each scored their 20th goals and had an assist, and the Rangers hung on to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 Monday night to earn a sixth-consecutive playoff spot. ''It's tough to get to the dance,'' New York coach Alain Vigneault said. Continue to Article

Islanders 5, Lightning 2 The New York Islanders responded to a rare public scolding from head coach Jack Capuano -- and moved closer to clinching a playoff spot -- Monday night, as Matt Martin, Brock Nelson and John Tavares scored in a span of less than six minutes in the second period of a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Barclays Center. The rebuke by the usually protective Capuano came two days after a 5-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, a defeat that dropped the Islanders to 5-6-2 since March 9 and left a playoff spot in peril. As William Nylander adjusts to life on the ice in the NHL, he’s also learning about maintaining proper decorum on his social media platforms. The Maple Leafs rookie recently deactivated his Twitter account “@Snizzbone” after being advised the term may have more than one meaning. “The team became aware that some were offended of his handle, notified him, and he subsequently deactivated it,” said Maple Leafs’ director of media relations Steve Keogh to Yahoo Sports. Nylander said he was unaware that his Twitter handle alluded to a derogatory term. According to the Urban Dictionary, snizzbone refers to “when a person from the hood screws you over in a deal.” As well, Urban Dictionary has a much more derogatory definition for “snizz,” which was concerning to the Leafs. The 19-year-old deactivated his Twitter account within the past two weeks, and said he doesn’t have a definitive timeline for rejoining the social media platform. When he was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the first round of the 2014 NHL draft, Nylander said he wasn’t sure of the meaning of snizzbone, adding, “I just got it from way back when I was younger." In 18 games since being recalled from the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies on Feb. 29, Nylander has five goals and nine points while averaging 16:17 per night in ice time.
