Losing three straight in regulation to open the season didn't sting the Los Angeles Kings too badly, but doing it down the stretch is a far different story. With the Pacific Division and Western Conference crowns still up for grabs, the Kings return home from a fruitless trip looking to turn things around Saturday night against an Edmonton Oilers team they have dominated this season. After its 0-3-0 start, Los Angeles (44-25-5) had skated through five months without three consecutive regulation losses prior to this week. Continue to Article

Dustin Byfuglien said the Winnipeg Jets continue to play hard even though it's likely they'll miss the playoffs. Byfuglien and Paul Postma scored less than three minutes apart early in the third period to help the Jets top the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on Thursday night. ''We can measure some things, but for the most part we didn't overly beat them,'' said Byfuglien, who scored his 17th goal of the season. Continue to Article

Since we're down to the final moments of postseason life for teams in contention, Puck Daddy solemnly begins a daily countdown to annihilation.   The New York Rangers’ win over the Boston Bruins on Wednesday gave them some much-needed breathing room over the Pittsburgh Penguins, but it could be short-lived: The Penguins still have two games in-hand as they sit four points in back of the Rangers. The Bruins, meanwhile, are right back at it on Thursday against the Florida Panthers, sitting three points up on the Detroit Red Wings, who have a game in-hand and visit Montreal. The two teams have one more game against each other, in Detroit on April 7. There's still a chance that the Bruins tumble out of the playoff seedings -- there's a roughly 14-percent chance, actually, that they finish out of the wild card. The Islanders, meanwhile, won a must-win against the lowly Ottawa “Everything Must Go!” Senators, moving four points up on the Philadelphia Flyers in the wild card race and inching one point in back of the Penguins with 10 games to play for each. They face each other on April 2. Here are the current standings. The Death Watch tracks the final Wild Card spot and the teams that are chasing it. Their “tragic number” is the number of points gained by the final wild card team or lost by the team chasing it. All playoff percentages are from Sports Club Stats ; tragic numbers and other figures via the NHL. A team is eliminated from play-offs when their "Tragic Number" hits 0. Pavelec made 28 saves and the Winnipeg Jets beat the reeling Vancouver Canucks 2-0 on Tuesday night. Adam Lowry and Mark Scheifele scored Winnipeg. Scheifele's empty-netter was his team-leading 24th goal of the season. Continue to Article

Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice announced Tuesday that veteran blueliner Toby Enstrom is scheduled for knee surgery and is out indefinitely. Enstrom, a top-four defenseman with the NHL club since it moved north from Atlanta in time for the 2011-12 season, scored a pair of goals and chipped in 14 assists this season. Enstrom has been bothered by the knee injury since November, Maurice told reporters. Continue to Article
