Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche pulled closer to the Wild Card with a dramatic 4-3 shootout victory over the Calgary Flames on Friday. But the win came at a cost for the Avs. The team lost center Nathan MacKinnon with a knee injury with around three minutes left in the third period. [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Hockey contest today ] The Avalanche said MacKinnon would be re-evaluated on Saturday , but right after the game his status wasn’t clear. Losing MacKinnon for any period of time would be tough for the Avalanche as they try to complete their playoff push. His 52 points rank second on the team, right behind fellow forward Matt Duchene who missed his first game of the season Friday with a knee injury. Duchene is considered day-to-day for Colorado. Coach Patrick Roy said defenseman Eric Gelinas would be out indefinitely with an elbow injury. Gelinas left the game early in the second period. In five games since a trade deadline deal that brought Gelinas to Colorado from New Jersey, the blueliner hasn’t picked up a point and averaged 13:39 of ice-time. The Avalanche were down 3-1 at 5:47 of the second period at Calgary. Then Tyson Barrie scored at the 8:33 mark of the second to put the game at 3-2 and Carl Soderberg scored at the 9:09 mark of the third to knot the game at 3-3. Mikkel Boedker scored the shootout winner. The team will get captain Gabriel Landeskog back for their next game, Sunday at the Edmonton Oilers. He just finished his three-game suspension for crosschecking Anaheim Ducks defenseman Simon Despres.  MORE FROM YAHOO HOCKEY   - - - - - - - Josh Cooper is an editor for Puck Daddy on Yahoo Sports. Henrik Sedin seems resigned to the fate of the Vancouver Canucks, who have begun prepping for the future by adding highly touted Nikita Tryamkin to the active roster. The Edmonton Oilers also hope their best days are ahead behind rookie Connor McDavid. Edmonton Oilers
The NHL will put cameras on the blue lines beginning in the playoffs to aid officials on offside calls when games matter most. Executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell says the tweak should lead to more consistency and give officials another angle to review if an offside call is challenged following a goal. The coach's challenge was added as a video-replay option along with the change to 3-on-3 overtime last year. Continue to Article
