Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans Thread

Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers couldn't get past a short-handed team to start this weekend but will get to face another to close it out. The New Orleans Pelicans might not have star Anthony Davis for the rest of the season, and the Clippers will try to take advantage of his absence Sunday night while earning a fifth consecutive win in the series. Los Angeles (43-25) fell 113-102 on Saturday night to a Memphis team that was missing several key players and dropped to 1-2 on its five-game trip. Continue to Article

Los Angeles Clippers
The San Antonio Spurs shut down Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, winning the clash of NBA heavyweights 87-79 to remain perfect on their home floor this season. The reigning NBA champion Warriors might be marching toward a single-season record for victories, but they still couldn't find a way to win in San Antonio, where they haven't come away with a victory since February 14, 1997. The Spurs, who have put together a magnificent season in the shadow of Golden State, improved to 59-10 and 35-0 at home. Continue to Article

Los Angeles Clippers
Matt Barnes was suspended by the Memphis Grizzlies for one game on Saturday, which he’ll serve in his team’s home game against the Los Angeles Clippers the same night. [ Follow Dunks Don't Lie on Tumblr: The best slams from all of basketball ] The suspension itself isn’t shocking, as Barnes allegedly chased Milwaukee Bucks forward John Henson down a corridor following both of their ejections on Thursday . What is shocking is that the league didn’t step in to give the troubled swingman an even stiffer punishment. The Grizzlies losing the versatile Barnes for any game – be it against the contending Los Angeles Clippers or the struggling Los Angeles Lakers – is damaging. The team leads the NBA in games lost to injury this year, and Barnes will be one of several rotation players to be on the shelf on Saturday night. Allowing the Grizzlies themselves to handle the punishment, however, seems like a bit of a miss. The league clearly wants Memphis to field a suitable lineup on Saturday night in front of the paying fans at home, but long ago (as especially confirmed by his work this season) Matt Barnes ceased to act as a suitable NBA player. This is the man who allegedly attacked the boyfriend (who also happened to be an NBA coach at the time) of his ex-wife in her home , prior to pointing out that “ violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is .” In allowing this sort of player to not only have a place of employment in the NBA, but yet another gig in a few days (Grizzlies take on the Suns in Phoenix on Monday and they’ll be back home to face the Spurs on the 28th; tickets still available, folks!) the league and the Grizzlies are condoning and repeatedly signing off on Barnes’ behavior. Behavior that seems far more suited for a league featuring pads and helmets, rather than one that fancies itself progressive and forward-thinking. Dave Joerger, who might have one foot out the door as Grizzlies coach, was not pleased. He even referenced recently relased pictures of Barnes' ex-wife bussing with boyfriend Derek Fisher: Joerger ultimately says Barnes suspension was fair. Says TMZ photos of Barnes ex wife with Derek Fisher might not have helped Barnes' mood. — Geoff Calkins (@geoff_calkins) March 19, 2016 Asked if he sees a light at the end of the tunnel, Dave Joerger says: "No." — Geoff Calkins (@geoff_calkins) March 19, 2016 Due to injury the Grizzlies are without Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, Vince Carter, Chris Andersen, Brandan Wright, and P.J. Hairston. The game against the Clippers, even at home, was likely to be one-sided, but Barnes’ absence doesn’t help things. In the end, it appears as if Matt Barnes was aided by the fact that nobody can sufficiently conclude whether or not the forward actually made it to the Milwaukee locker room on Thursday, or if he was even going after Henson (who was acting rather ridiculously in an embarrassing showing) in the first place. It’s possible that Matt Barnes (who has been working out of the visiting locker room in Milwaukee since 2003) may have just happened to take a wrong turn. It’s also possible that a man who just turned 36 is still continuing his work as the league's most under-reported embarrassment. - - - - - - - Kelly Dwyer is an editor for Ball Don't Lie on Yahoo Sports.
