When Gonzaga and Utah meet Saturday, with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line, the game will feature two of the best big men in America - 7-foot Jakob Poeltl of the Utes vs. 6-11 Domantas Sabonis of the Bulldogs. ''It's certainly a story line that's going to have a lot to do with the outcome - how they guard (Poeltl), how we guard Sabonis, collectively, how it all plays out,'' said Larry Krystkowiak, who coaches the third-seeded Utes. Isaiah Whitehead's scoring spree couldn't have ended at a worse time. DENVER – Gonzaga had everything working in its favor Thursday night in its NCAA tournament first-round game against Seton Hall. The experienced Bulldogs, who went to the Elite Eight last season, drew an opponent with one senior, the only player with any NCAA tournament experience in the Pirates' locker room. Gonzaga also had the good fortune of playing the Big East Conference tournament champions at an 11 p.m. Eastern start time.  Gonzaga held the edge in the paint where it is strongest with the frontcourt of Kyle Wiltjer and Domantas Sabonis. But even with so much seemingly on its side, the Bulldogs still had to earn the right to move on, which is what they did in a 68-52 victory. It’s the eighth consecutive season the Bulldogs have won their first-round game. They will face No. 3 seed Utah on Saturday and the Utes with center Jakob Poeltl are much better equipped to handle the Bulldogs' interior size than the youthful Pirates were. Continue to Article

Maybe the most telling part of Derrick Gordon's story is that it hasn't really been a story this season. When sixth-seeded Seton Hall (25-8) takes the court Thursday against Gonzaga (26-7), Gordon will become the first openly gay player to play in the NCAA Tournament. The guard from Plainfield, New Jersey - only a half-hour from Seton Hall's campus - is coming off the bench, averaging 7.9 points and 3.2 assists a game. Continue to Article
