The Monmouth bench mob was all set to break out some new moves for the NCAA tournament before Iona went and spoiled the party. With a 79-76 win over the Hawks in the MAAC tournament finale, the Gaels punched their ticket to the NCAA tourney and sent the Hawks skittering into the NIT. Players from Monmouth, St. Bonaventure and even Michigan State got the bad news the way so many folks do these days - through social media. The bracket that leaked on Twitter while CBS was in the middle of unveiling the March Madness pairings turned out to be 100 percent accurate. For Michigan State, the news was that it was a No. 2 seed, behind Oregon, Virginia, Kansas and North Carolina - a ranking that belied the predictions of almost every self-proclaimed bracketologist in the country. Iowa State (21-10, 10-8 Big 12) will begin its quest for a third straight conference tournament title Thursday against third-seeded Oklahoma (24-6, 12-6), ranked sixth nationally. After three years of trying, the senior forward and the Gaels are headed back to the NCAA Tournament. A.J. English hit a fadeway jumper with 1:39 left to break a tie and Deyshonee Much followed with a driving layup that he converted into a three-point play, and second-seeded Iona edged top-seeded Monmouth 79-76 on Monday night to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament title and snare a berth in the big tournament.
