Duke
Notre Dame's methodical pace in last year's ACC tournament semifinals stymied eventual national champion Duke before it won the program's first conference tournament title. The Fighting Irish approached this season's meeting much differently, creating a frantic yet efficient offensive battle while winning at Cameron Indoor Stadium. No matter the style, Notre Dame boasts consistent success rarely seen against the 19th-ranked Blue Devils and can win for the fifth time in six matchups in Thursday's quarterfinal round. Duke
Duke senior center Marshall Plumlee suffered a broken nose in the second half of Wednesday's 92-89 win over NC State in the ACC Tournament, but he returned to the court with less than six minutes to play and ultimately made the game-winning basket. Sign up now and play for $50K ] Plumlee was injured with less than eight minutes to play when he inadvertently caught an elbow in the face from teammate Matt Jones. He left the court for several minutes while the Duke medical staff worked on his face and returned a short time later. The Wolfpack rallied to tie the game with 1 minute, 36 seconds remaining on a jumper from Cody Martin. But Plumlee grabbed an offensive rebound on Duke's next possession following a missed shot from Brandon Ingram and scored what proved to be the game-winning layup, getting fouled in the process. Plumlee went to the free throw line and completed the three-point play for the final points of the game from either team. [ Ticket punched: Green Bay starters lead way to Horizon League title ] Plumlee produced one of his best games of the season, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds and four blocked shots, but this one will be remembered for the gruesome shots on television of his mangled nose and how he responded. Duke is already without big man Amile Jefferson whose season was spoiled by a broken right foot. The Blue Devils are plenty used to playing without Jefferson, who was injured Dec. 12, but it's going to be vital to get this kind of gritty effort from Plumlee the rest of the way if Duke has any chance at repeating as national champion or even making it deep into the NCAA tournament. - - - - - - - [ Kyle Ringo is the assistant editor of The Dagger on Yahoo Sports. Duke
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A bloodied Marshall Plumlee's tiebreaking 3-point play with 74 seconds left helped 19th-ranked Duke overcome a second-half deficit against North Carolina State for the third time in three meetings, and the reigning NCAA champion edged the Wolfpack 92-89 in the ACC Tournament's second round Wednesday. Duke
Anthony ''Cat'' Barber and Grayson Allen are set for one final duel between ACC scoring leaders. The explosive guards from North Carolina State and No. 19 Duke figure to be part of an entertaining affair Wednesday in a conference tournament second-round matchup in Washington D.C. Barber averaged 23.4 points in the regular season and Allen 21.5 as the only players in the conference to top 20. Continue to Article

Notre Dame
Notre Dame point guard Demetrius Jackson pulled out his Atlantic Coast Conference championship ring the other day as a reminder. The Fighting Irish (20-10) head into the ACC tournament this week at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., with the title of defending tournament champions, a title they've never held before in any conference. Coach Mike Brey doesn't want the fourth-seeded Irish to dwell too much on that, but he encouraged his players to wear those championship rings this week. Continue to Article
