Danuel House had 16 points, including two free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining, to lift No. 21 Texas A&M to a 68-66 victory over Mississippi State on Wednesday night. Craig Sword tied it 66-66 on a jump shot with 24 seconds left before freshman star Quinndary Weatherspoon fouled out on House's shot attempt that led to the winning free throws. There's no surprise that Mississippi State's surge in Southeastern Conference play is being led by a freshman. Quinndary Weatherspoon - a relatively unheralded 6-foot-4 guard - has been invaluable for the Bulldogs over the past two months with his versatility, scoring nearly 15 points per game in conference play while playing four different positions on the floor. It's a huge reason Mississippi State (12-14, 5-9 SEC) has won five of its past nine games and knocked off two straight teams - Alabama and Vanderbilt - that still harbor hopes of making the NCAA Tournament.
