Boston Bruins
Boston went ahead and made two moves for a playoff push at Monday's trade deadline, though the group it had wasn't having too difficult of a time picking up points against its next opponent. The Bruins haven't lost a regulation game to Calgary since 2008-09, a streak they'll try to extend Tuesday night in Boston while furthering the Flames' crippling overall skid. The Bruins (34-23-6) acquired forward Lee Stempniak from New Jersey in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2016 and a second-round draft pick in 2017. Continue to Article

Boston Bruins
(Reuters) - With no blockbusters deals to be had Stanley Cup contenders tweaked their rosters while others waved the flag on the season, jettisoning contracts for draft picks in a muted National Hockey League trade deadline day on Monday. The wheeling-and-dealing on Canada's unofficial hockey holiday produced 19 largely inconsequential trades involving 37 players, which marked the quietest deadline day since 17 trades involving 30 players were made three years ago. "It became apparent to me early on that the market was going to be very different," said Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, who made his big deal last week by sending captain Andrew Ladd to the Chicago Blackhawks as part of a deal that landed his team a prospect and first-round draft pick. Boston Bruins
Heading into his first trade deadline as general manager of the Boston Bruins, Don Sweeney's biggest task was to resolve the situation with pending free agent Loui Eriksson. When the deadline passed at 3 p.m. EST on Monday, Eriksson was still with the Bruins and he did not have a contract extension. Eriksson is in the final year of a six-year contract with an annual salary cap charge of $4.25 million, and at the end of the season, he can become an unrestricted free agent. Continue to Article

Boston Bruins
On top of the NHL by a mile, the Washington Capitals didn't feel threatened by deals the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers or Chicago Blackhawks made ahead of the trade deadline. The Capitals were quiet on deadline day after earlier acquiring forward Daniel Winnik and defenseman Mike Weber to prepare for the playoffs. ''We were trying to add some depth players,'' MacLellan said. Continue to Article

Calgary Flames
David Jones was the last pending UFA that the Calgary Flames needed to trade, and while it was late, they managed to execute a deal sending him to the Minnesota Wild. Coming back to Calgary is a 2016 sixth-round pick and goaltender Niklas Backstrom, Minnesota’s all-time leader in wins (194) and shutouts (28). His deal ends after this season, so the Flames are basically getting a pick for taking on an expiring contract.  Jones has nine goals and 15 points in 59 games this season. He can help bolster a forward group that’s currently been rolling in the wake of Mike Yeo’s firing. His versatility will certainly please new head coach John Torchetti. The 38-year-old Backstrom, who had to waive a no-movement clause for this deal, has been limited to only 40 appearances over the last two seasons due to injury. In what’s possibly his final NHL season, he’ll have a better shot at getting some starts with the Flames than with the Wild. Maybe he's able to play well enough to latch on somewhere next season on a one-year deal. Otherwise, Europe will probably be calling. On the Milbury scale on this trade :  Continue to Article
