The Philadelphia Flyers are right back in contention, presently sitting three points in back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild card spot in the East. But that doesn’t mean that can’t think about the future, too – hence, they announced that forward Michael Raffl has agreed to a three-year extension on Sunday. From the Flyers: Raffl, 27 (12/1/1988), is one of three Flyers to have appeared in all 61 games this season where he has recorded 17 points (8g-9a) while averaging 14:17 of time-on-ice per-game. In his third NHL season, all of which he has spent with the Flyers, Raffl has posted 38 goals and 29 assists for 67 points in 196 games played. He owns a plus-minus rating of plus-13, while seven of his 38 goals and have been game-winning goals. Pierre LeBrun reports the contract carries an average annual cap hit of $2.35 million. Raffl was headed to unrestricted free agency this summer, and would have been snatched up fairly quickly. He’s second on the Flyers in 5-on-5 Corsi (53.4 percent, behind only Sean Couturier) and brings a ton of versatility to the lineup. The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Michael Raffl to a three-year, $7.05 million contract extension. The Flyers announced the signing Sunday, and a person with direct knowledge of the deal revealed the contract figures to The Associated Press. No. 1 Star: Mika Zibanjejad, Ottawa Senators Scored three goals to lead his team to a 6-4 comeback win over the Calgary Flames. The Senators were behind 4-2 before the young sniper fired three straight goals for the natural hat trick. Zibanejad scored three goals in 2:38, which are the fastest three goals in Senators history. The last Senator to notch a natural hat trick was Jason Spezza on Oct. 15, 2013. No. 2 Star: Filip Forsberg, Nashville Predators The young Swede notched his second natural hat trick in the same week . This one came in a 5-0 drubbing of the St. Louis Blues. He is the first Predators player in team history to register multiple hat tricks in a single season. Forsberg has 26 goals on the year to lead the team. Nashville has 73 points, nine clear of the Minnesota Wild – the last team out of the Wild Card in the Western Conference. No. 3 Star: Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators The Predators goaltender picked up his second straight shutout to continue his hot play. In his last five games, Rinne is 4-0-1 with a 0.79 goal-against average and .974 save percentage. With the victory, Rinne improved to 24-18-9 on the year. Honorable Mention: Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson notched two assists. He leads the NHL with 56 helpers … Ottawa forward Mark Stone notched three assists … Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau scored two goals and added an assist.
