Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers are right back in contention, presently sitting three points in back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild card spot in the East. But that doesn’t mean that can’t think about the future, too – hence, they announced that forward Michael Raffl has agreed to a three-year extension on Sunday.  From the Flyers: Raffl, 27 (12/1/1988), is one of three Flyers to have appeared in all 61 games this season where he has recorded 17 points (8g-9a) while averaging 14:17 of time-on-ice per-game. In his third NHL season, all of which he has spent with the Flyers, Raffl has posted 38 goals and 29 assists for 67 points in 196 games played. He owns a plus-minus rating of plus-13, while seven of his 38 goals and have been game-winning goals. Pierre LeBrun reports the contract carries an average annual cap hit of $2.35 million. Raffl was headed to unrestricted free agency this summer, and would have been snatched up fairly quickly. He’s second on the Flyers in 5-on-5 Corsi (53.4 percent, behind only Sean Couturier) and brings a ton of versatility to the lineup. There was a thought he could be moved at the deadline if an extension didn’t come through. Instead, he’s locked up at a good price. -- Greg Wyshynski  is a writer for Yahoo Sports.
