Rickard Rakell scored 1:24 into overtime to give the Anaheim Ducks a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night. Rakell put a backhander past Cam Talbot seconds after a change on the fly, using some gorgeous puck handling to keep Oilers center Leon Draisaitl flatfooted and leave the goaltender baffled. The Ottawa Senators have little room for error in their quest to reach the playoffs. Following a demoralizing defeat, the visiting Senators are at risk of suffering another one Saturday night if they don't take care of the lowly Calgary Flames. Leading by one goal after two periods Thursday, Ottawa (29-27-6) was in position to claim a season-high fifth consecutive victory before Vancouver scored all three goals in the third to win 5-3. Josh Bailey scored with 18 seconds left on the clock in overtime, Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves, and the New York Islanders rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night. Thomas Hickey also scored as the Islanders improved to 3-0-0 on their season-high seven-game stretch of road games and remained three points behind the second-place New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.
