It's not unusual for an ugly loss to preceed a special win. It happened again Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa where No. 14 West Virginia handed No. 13 Iowa State a rare setback at home in Hilton Coliseum. The Mountaineers were coming off their worst loss of the season Saturday at Florida after which coach Bob Huggins ripped them for a lack of commitment to their pressing style of play. Hield and Cousins will try to stay hot Tuesday night when the No. 1 Sooners chase their 18th consecutive home win while dealing TCU a 12th straight league road defeat. Hield rose to the occasion in a Big 12/SEC Challenge showdown against Ben Simmons and LSU on Saturday, hitting 7 of 8 from 3-point range in the second half and scoring 32 points as Oklahoma (18-2, 6-2) rallied from 14 down for a 77-75 road victory. West Virginia coach Bob Huggins is glad he has a good bench for when his starters get in foul trouble or are having a tough game. ''That's the good thing about this team, you know?'' Huggins said. Phillip scored West Virginia's final eight points and the sixth-ranked Mountaineers ended the game on a 10-2 run to rally for an 80-76 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak.
