TCU
Although it was Buddy Hield who soared to even greater heights in front of a national audience, Isaiah Cousins may also be key to Oklahoma's long-term success. Hield and Cousins will try to stay hot Tuesday night when the No. 1 Sooners chase their 18th consecutive home win while dealing TCU a 12th straight league road defeat. Hield rose to the occasion in a Big 12/SEC Challenge showdown against Ben Simmons and LSU on Saturday, hitting 7 of 8 from 3-point range in the second half and scoring 32 points as Oklahoma (18-2, 6-2) rallied from 14 down for a 77-75 road victory. Oklahoma
In addition to his lethal spot-up shooting and knack for drawing fouls attacking the rim, Buddy Hield showed off another of his talents Saturday night at LSU. He's also a pretty good decoy With the score tied and Oklahoma holding for the last shot, Hield lined up at the foul line as though he was going to set a top-of-the-key ball screen for point guard Isaiah Cousins. Hield instead floated out to the right wing, drawing enough attention to himself in the process that Cousins was able to drive left, beat his man and sink a pull-up jumper to give the Sooners a 77-75 road victory.  Using Hield as a decoy was a masterful strategy from Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger because the 6-foot-4 senior had been the focal point of the Sooners' attack all day. Hield widened his lead in the national player of the year race by scoring a game-high 32 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field and 8-for-15 shooting from behind the arc. Every time LSU lost track of Hield in transition or failed to stick to him in a half-court set, he made them pay. He sank back-to-back 3-pointers to give Oklahoma a 66-65 lead in a game it trailed by double figures earlier in the second half. He later made another huge right-wing 3-pointer to put the Sooners back in front in the final two minutes. Fellow national player of the year candidate Ben Simmons had some nice moments, but too often he did not touch the ball down the stretch. The likely No. 1 pick in next June's draft finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists. - - - - - - - Jeff Eisenberg is the editor of The Dagger on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip? TCU
Malique Trent scored 14 of his 15 points after halftime as TCU rallied from a 14-point deficit to end a five-game losing streak, beating Tennessee 75-63 on Saturday in the Big 12-SEC Challenge. Chris Washburn had 14 points and nine rebounds while Brandon Parrish scored 14 and Karviar Shepherd 13 for the Horned Frogs (10-11), who had a pair of 10-0 runs in the second half. Trent started one of those runs with two free throws to put the Frogs ahead 56-55 with eight minutes to play. Continue to Article

Oklahoma
Buddy Hield and Jordan Woodard are two of the country's best 3-point shooters, but they certainly haven't looked like it against Texas Tech. It appeared that Oklahoma's rise to the top spot of the poll for the first time since 1990 might not last long Saturday when Hield sat on the bench with two early fouls five days after an 82-77 loss at then-No. 19 Iowa State. Woodard led the way with 20 points, making five 3s while also handing out seven assists. Continue to Article

Oklahoma
West Virginia's first Big 12 loss was excusable, expected maybe, even after it knocked off the top team in the country. Any chance of remaining in the top 10 for another week hinges on the sixth-ranked Mountaineers winning at Texas Tech on Saturday, but while they've been exposed as beatable, the Red Raiders are yet to show they can prosper against the league's top teams. Bob Huggins' team might first have been considered a true contender for the conference title with a 74-63 home win over then-No. 1 Kansas on Jan. 12. Continue to Article
