Butler
It took until two-thirds of the way through his senior season for Roosevelt Jones to sink his first career 3-pointer, but the Butler forward found a way to make it memorable. He banked in a 70 footer at the halftime buzzer of Saturday afternoon's Big East clash between the Bulldogs and Marquette. ROOSEVELT JONES! 3/4 COURT HEAVE IS GOOD! @rozayyjones21 with #The1 for @ButlerMBB to end the half! #BIGEAST https://t.co/Z66tl4TLks — FS1 (@FS1) January 30, 2016 A crafty 6-foot-4 small forward who thrives attacking off the dribble, Jones has averaged 14.5 points this season despite not attempting a single 3-pointer. Out of Jones' more than 1,100 career field goal attempts entering play Saturday, only three came from behind the arc, the last of which was an off-target, last-second heave in a 54-53 loss to LaSalle in Jan. 2013. After Jones hit the 70 footer against Marquette, he celebrated the only way anyone celebrates anything in 2016. Hit a 3/4 court shot? Yeah, you can dab @rozayyjones21 ! #BIGEAST pic.twitter.com/yy8wZfyWlv — FS1 (@FS1) January 30, 2016 - - - - - - - Jeff Eisenberg is the editor of The Dagger on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip? Georgetown
Providence has been fairly solid this season down the stretch while Georgetown just turned in what could be considered one of the best clutch efforts in college basketball this season. The 10th-ranked Friars are one of four teams in the country that are unbeaten on the road as they face the Hoyas on Saturday night in a matchup featuring the Big East's top three scorers. Providence (17-4, 5-3) cut a 17-point second-half deficit to three Tuesday before falling 75-68 at home to No. 7 Xavier, dropping to 2-3 in Big East home games. Continue to Article

At the end of John Thompson III's news conference after his team's comeback victory over Creighton on Tuesday night, a reporter delicately asked the Georgetown coach about the "adversity" the Hoyas had overcome during the game.  Before Thompson could answer the thinly veiled question about the officiating, his father intervened with his own candid, expletive-riddled take. "Let your father comment on that,” Big John said so his son would not risk a fine. “They’re not blind, they saw what happened. … The last two games have been terrible, and you can tell the [bleeping] commissioner and everybody else in the Big East that I said that.” Thompson was just a bit more diplomatic with his response to the question. "During the course of a game, we have to adjust to the officiating," the Georgetown coach said. "We have to make adjustments to how they are calling the game. Some times are more difficult than others to adjust to how they are calling the game. Tonight was one of those nights where for one reason or the other, we couldn't adjust." Thompson might have gone on longer, but his dad eventually cut him off with some friendly advice. "Shut up," Big John chimed in once more, drawing a chuckle from his son and everyone else in the room. Was the officiating truly as poor as Big John said? Creighton shot only two more foul shots than Georgetown did, but the Hoyas were the victim of one particularly controversial whistle, an over-the-back call on Jessie Govan for the freshman center’s fifth foul with eight minutes remaining. During the game, Thompson clearly didn't feel Govan's slight push in the back merited a foul. Thankfully for him, he didn't have to risk being fined after the game because his dad was able to speak candidly for him. - - - - - - - Jeff Eisenberg is the editor of The Dagger on Yahoo Sports. Butler
The 10th-ranked Friars will be right back at it Tuesday night looking for another signature victory as they welcome No. 7 Xavier for the first top-10 matchup in the history of the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Friars came up with a more impressive win in Philadelphia on Sunday. Ben Bentil had 31 points and 13 rebounds while Kris Dunn finished with 13 points, 14 assists and four steals in an 82-76 overtime victory over then-No. 4 Villanova. Continue to Article
